From Elkins Inter-Mountain newspaper

MORGANTOWN — Quintin Smith had two hits and knocked in four runs to help lead Morgantown Post 2 to an 8-0 win over Elkins Wednesday in American Legion action at Mylan Park.

One of Smith’s hits was a three-run homer that highlighted a five-run fourth inning for Post 2 (14-1) and gave the hosts a 7-0 advantage.

Devon Neal added three hits for Morgantown and contributed a two-run home run to the fourth-inning outburst.

“That fourth inning was the difference in the game,” Elkins manager Chris George said. “It was a close game (2-0) going into that inning.”

Reed Bailey notched the win for Morgantown, which tacked on another run in the fifth inning to end the scoring, in seven innings pitched. He allowed just two hits, struck out three and walked one.

David Freeman and Gage Bibey had the lone hits for Post 29, which dropped to 9-10 on the season.

“We had a lot of bad at-bats tonight,” George said. “We had some bad approaches at the plate and overall just didn’t play very well.”

Remington Stanley suffered the loss for Elkins in four innings of work. He allowed 10 hits, struck out two and walked two.

Elkins will battle South Charleston Post 94 at St. Albans High School at 6 p.m. Friday.

Post 29 will remain on the road on Saturday for a twin bill at St. Albans High School, facing South Charleston again at 1 p.m. and Charleston Post 20 at 3:30 p.m.

At 2 p.m. on Sunday, Elkins will face Summersville at Midland Trail High School. The next home game for Post 29 will be Tuesday against Area 5 foe Buckhannon at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.
